Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice, Suggests Leaked Evidence

Recent circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons may offer an unconventional feature: the ability to function as computer mice. While the widespread adoption of this mode by game developers remains uncertain, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative experimentation.

The evidence comes from Famiboards user LiC, who previously accessed Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This data source has fueled numerous Switch 2 rumors since mid-2024.

In early January 2025, LiC shared further findings, revealing entries for polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles" and intended "to stick to game console handles." The use of "mouse soles," a term for the bottom of a computer mouse, strongly implies mouse-like functionality for the Switch 2 controllers.

Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were referenced. These designations haven't been found in public databases, suggesting they are new, unreleased products. The listed size, 90 x 90mm, is large enough to cover the back of the Joy-Cons, likely requiring trimming during assembly.

Not a First for Handheld Consoles

While novel for Nintendo, a mouse-like controller mode isn't unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, allows its right controller to function as a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even includes a plastic piece to aid smooth surface movement.

The Legion GO also features magnetic rails for controller attachment—a feature also rumored for the Switch 2. This similarity further strengthens the parallels between the two devices.
