Warner Bros. Announces The Shutdown Of Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Just One Year After Its Launch
Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile game, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially shutting down on October 21st, 2024.
The reasons behind the closure remain unannounced, although NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division (which also handled Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in company strategy.
The status of in-game purchases and potential refunds is currently unclear. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games have not yet detailed their refund policy for in-game currency and items, but promise further updates soon. Players are advised to monitor the official X (formerly Twitter) account for announcements.
Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the series. Unlike previous entries, it blended action-adventure RPG elements with a cinematic storyline, drawing comparisons to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The game's narrative focused on Raiden and a player-controlled team thwarting Shinnok's attempt to regain his power.
