Pokémon TCG Announces Beloved Trainer's Pokémon and Team Rocket's Return in 2025!
Exciting news for Pokémon TCG players! During the 2024 Pokémon World Championships, The Pokémon Company revealed the highly anticipated comeback of classic TCG mechanics: Trainer's Pokémon and a potential Team Rocket resurgence in 2025.
While no official release date has been confirmed, a teaser trailer showcased iconic trainers like Marnie, Lillie, and N alongside their Pokémon, including Lillie’s Clefairy ex, Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex, N’s Zoroark ex, and N’s Reshiram. This nostalgic return of Trainer's Pokémon, a staple of early TCG sets, promises unique abilities and striking artwork.
The trailer also teased a possible Team Rocket comeback, featuring Mewtwo and the infamous Team Rocket symbol. This fuels speculation about a dedicated Team Rocket set or even the return of Dark Pokémon, another beloved feature from the game's past. Previous reports, including a Japanese retailer listing and a trademark filing ("The Glory of Team Rocket"), further support these rumors.
Meanwhile, the 2024 World Championships also unveiled a sneak peek at the Paradise Dragona set.
According to PokeBeach, the preview showcased Latias, Latios, Exeggcute, and Alolan Exeggutor ex. This Japanese subset, focused on Dragon-type Pokémon, is slated for a November 2024 English release as part of the Surging Sparks set.
