Hollow Knight: Silksong Dev Fuels Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Fever With a Picture of a Chocolate Cake
Six years. That's how long fans have waited for Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece. Throughout this time, glimpses of Silksong have appeared and disappeared at various gaming events, even leading to a seemingly confirmed pre-June 2023 release by Microsoft (which, needless to say, didn't happen). The Game Awards came and went without a Silksong announcement. Could the recently announced Nintendo Switch 2 Direct finally be the moment?
The internet thinks so, and it all started with a cake.
Sharp-eyed fans on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed Team Cherry co-director William Pellen changed his Twitter/X profile picture on January 15th to a chocolate cake. He accompanied the change with this cryptic tweet: “something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow.”

With rumors swirling about a January 16th Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, the timing was uncanny. Nintendo did indeed announce the Switch 2 that day, leaving many unanswered questions about the new console. Did Pellen's tweet hint at the reveal? If so, why?
This is where the Hollow Knight community went into full-blown detective mode. Fans reverse-image searched the cake, tracing it back to a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe on Bon Appétit, published April 2nd, 2024.

The significance? Nintendo confirmed the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 would air on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025. The theory? Pellen orchestrated an alternate reality game (ARG) with the cake tweet, teasing Silksong's reveal.
The speculation doesn't stop there. Fans are dissecting Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr, and his new name, "little bomey." One compelling theory suggests "everydruidwaswr," at 15 characters (the Twitter handle limit), hints at a Silksong NPC, the Druid of the Moss Temple. "Little bomey" is believed to be a reference to a Southern Australian wine, aligning with Team Cherry's location, though the spelling differs. What does it all mean?
Remember, Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement listed Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch as launch platforms. That was six years ago. Has Nintendo secured Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? A timed exclusive? Or is this all just enthusiastic speculation from a fanbase starved for news?
We'll have answers in a few months. Until then, let's review everything revealed at the Nintendo Switch 2 presentation.
