"Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Super Thin Design Unveiled"
Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge at its May Unpacked event, presenting a new top-tier smartphone that, while similar to the earlier 2025 Galaxy S25 model, boasts a notably thinner design that gives it a distinct edge. The Galaxy S25 Edge shares many specs with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, including the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a 200MP camera. However, its standout feature is its slimmed-down chassis, now only 5.8mm thick compared to the 8.2mm of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This reduction in thickness also makes the phone lighter, tipping the scales at just 163g.
Despite its larger size, the Galaxy S25 Edge retains the same 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display found in the standard Galaxy S25, even though it matches the specs of the slightly larger 6.9-inch display on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. With such a thin and expansive design, durability is a primary concern. Samsung addresses this with the new Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, which is claimed to be more robust than the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The real test, however, will be whether it can withstand the pressures of everyday use, such as being sat on in a pocket, without succumbing to a potential "bendgate" scenario.
The Galaxy S25 Edge also includes the suite of "Mobile AI" tools that debuted with the Samsung Galaxy S24 and were further refined in 2025. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the phone can handle significant AI processing locally, enhancing privacy. However, many AI applications still depend on cloud services. Samsung offers unique features like notification and news article summarization, adding convenience for users interested in these capabilities.
Preorders for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge start today, with prices beginning at $1,099 for the 256GB model and $1,219 for the 512GB version. The phone is available in three color options: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icyblue. Samsung emphasizes the phone's durability despite its slim profile, and we can only hope that it lives up to these claims.
