Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released

A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility issues for several Assassin's Creed titles. Fortunately, Ubisoft has addressed the problem with patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. However, players of Assassin's Creed Odyssey may still encounter difficulties.

The Windows 11 24H2 update, while boasting features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+ PC integration, caused some games to malfunction. Ubisoft swiftly released title updates for Origins (230 MB download) and Valhalla (500 MB download) to resolve these issues. These updates should be automatically applied via Steam.

The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. While the patches for Origins and Valhalla are welcome news, reports indicate that Assassin's Creed Odyssey continues to experience problems, such as unresponsiveness or complete failure to launch. Other Ubisoft titles, such as Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, also faced initial issues, though hotfixes have reportedly mitigated the most significant problems. Performance issues may still persist.

This situation highlights a concerning trend. Players reported issues with several games during the Windows 24H2 update preview five months prior to the official release. The fact that these problems weren't fully addressed before the widespread rollout is troubling, especially given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11.
