Images have surfaced online allegedly showing ASUS' Xbox-branded handheld gaming device, internally known as Project Kennan.

First reported by 91mobiles and spotted by Eurogamer, two leaked photos showcasing what appears to be the ASUS ROG Ally 2 – in both white and black colorways – emerged through Indonesian certification documents. These listings reportedly referenced (now apparently removed) filings on the U.S. FCC website.

Both models feature Xbox-style button layouts (Y, B, A, X arrangement rather than PlayStation or Nintendo configurations). Notably, the black variant's images reveal a prominent Xbox button positioned left of the thumbstick, though curiously lacking the distinctive 'X' logo. Current technical specifications remain fragmented, leaving performance capabilities and potential differences between color variants unclear.

Windows Central's Jez Corden indicates these devices are "currently undergoing open testing at Microsoft headquarters" and suggests a possible official unveiling around May 20.

This development follows April's teaser from ASUS Republic of Gamers, which briefly showcased both an ROG Xbox controller and handheld device. Xbox's official account responded with an anticipatory gif, hinting at imminent announcements.

The leaks align with IGN's earlier report about Microsoft's hardware roadmap, suggesting plans for a next-generation Xbox console in 2027 and potentially an Xbox-branded gaming handheld launching later in 2025.

While this specific Xbox-branded handheld represents a third-party collaboration rather than first-party hardware, Microsoft appears to be developing its own portable gaming solution for potential 2027 release alongside next-gen Xbox hardware. This portable gaming development follows reports that the Xbox Series X successor has entered full production, targeting a 2027 launch window – consistent with Xbox president Sarah Bond's comments about Microsoft "delivering the biggest technological leap ever in a generation."
