Larian Studios, the creators of the critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3, have announced a media blackout as they fully dedicate their efforts to their next, unannounced project.

While Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 is slated for release later this year, Larian's CEO, Swen Vincke, confirmed via Twitter and a subsequent statement to VideoGamer that the studio's complete focus is now on developing a new game. This new title will not be a Baldur's Gate sequel nor any other D&D-related project. Instead, Larian is venturing into uncharted territory with a completely original concept, a decision made after internal discussions revealed a lack of enthusiasm for a Baldur's Gate continuation.

Previous hints about Larian's future projects have been scarce. In November 2023, Vincke alluded to a new game that aims to push creative boundaries. He also mentioned in July 2023 that a sequel to their Divinity: Original Sin series is a possibility, but not their immediate priority.

The nature of Larian's next game remains shrouded in mystery. Given their established expertise in fantasy RPGs, speculation ranges from a new fantasy setting to a potential foray into science fiction, a modern-day setting, or even an entirely different genre.
