Conquer the Iconic Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The Battle of Hulao Gate, a legendary clash in the Dynasty Warriors series, presents a formidable challenge in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This guide will help you overcome this crucial stage in Chapter 2. The objective: defeat Dong Zhuo.

Initial Strategy:

Begin by clearing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right. Conquering two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue eliminating bases; defeating Zhang Liao rewards you with a twin pike weapon. Once all bases are secured, assault Hulao Gate.

Facing Dong Zhuo's Forces:

The initial assault is chaotic. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he initiates his Grand Tactic, weakening the defenses.

Lu Bu's Arrival:

Dong Zhuo deploys Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. He's overwhelmingly powerful. Instead, eliminate enemy officers around the periphery to maintain morale, which Lu Bu significantly drains. Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base (Yuan Shao). Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will temporarily hold him off, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time limit; if Liu Bei's forces retreat, you must be close to defeating Dong Zhuo.

Defeating Dong Zhuo:

After Lu Bu's departure (and a quick resupply if needed), capture the northern and western bases. With three squads ready, attack Dong Zhuo.

Dong Zhuo will unleash two Grand Tactics involving fireballs. The first requires destroying two catapults. Use Musou Rage (if available) to clear a path through soldiers. The second requires defeating an officer; you might encounter Diaochan, a formidable opponent. A duel with Diaochan is recommended to avoid being overwhelmed.

Once the Grand Tactics are thwarted, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should easily overcome his weakened army. Dian Wei might even initiate a Grand Tactic, further simplifying the final confrontation. Defeat Dong Zhuo to complete the mission.
