Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA-owned studio.

Eurogamer reports Busche's departure, expected in the coming weeks, following her tenure as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last October. EA has yet to comment.

The commercial success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a subject of speculation since its release. While Eurogamer indicates Busche's exit is unrelated to the game's performance, EA's Q3 2025 financial results (due February 4th) will offer further clarity on sales figures. Notably, BioWare has confirmed there are no plans for DLC. Their focus has shifted to Mass Effect 5.

Busche's departure follows a period of significant change at BioWare. August 2023 saw approximately 50 layoffs, including veteran staff. This coincided with internal restructuring at EA and rumors of potential BioWare acquisitions. The decision to transition Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher was also made around this time, supposedly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The Dragon Age franchise itself experienced turbulence. The initial reveal trailer for (then) Dreadwolf received negative feedback, prompting a swift release of gameplay footage to appease fans. The subsequent name change to The Veilguard also drew mixed reactions. Despite initial concerns, later impressions of the game were generally positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. Whether BioWare will receive the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard is a question now facing fans.
