A new chapter begins for Brotato. Evil Empire, the studio that took over development from Blobfish last month, has released its first major content update for the popular roguelite shooter. Named New Dawn, it's now available on PC, with console and mobile versions arriving in approximately a month. This marks the first step in Evil Empire's plan to unify all platforms by 2026.

If you've played Dead Cells or The Rogue Prince of Persia, you're familiar with Evil Empire's commitment to post-launch support. That same dedication is evident here. New Dawn introduces a range of quality-of-life improvements, including a novel Ban system that allows you to block up to eight unwanted items during a run (weapons are exempt).

It also adds three new save slots, perfect for managing different builds, and a Codex that functions as an in-game wiki, tracking weapons, items, and even the number of aliens you've vaporized. You can see all of these features in the video overview below.

Of course, an Evil Empire update wouldn't be complete without new toys. Six new items join the roster, from the ethereal Will-o'-Wisp to the aptly named Fruit Basket, each bringing fresh twists to your builds. Then there's the Vorpal Sword, the update's standout weapon, which alternates between thrusts and wide sweeps—and yes, it can eliminate enemies in a single hit.

This is the first major update since late 2024, and it's only the beginning. Evil Empire has confirmed ongoing support for Brotato, so the future looks both bright and bloody for this title.
