Sandfall Interactive's upcoming turn-based RPG, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is generating significant excitement. Drawing inspiration from classic JRPGs, Final Fantasy, and Persona, the game blends turn-based combat with real-time elements, creating a unique gameplay experience.

The game's creative director, Guillaume Broche, recently discussed the game's influences. He highlighted a desire to create a high-fidelity turn-based RPG, citing Atlus' Persona and Square Enix's Octopath Traveler as stylistic inspirations. While acknowledging the influence of Persona's camera work and dynamic menus, Broche emphasized a stronger connection to the Final Fantasy series, particularly Final Fantasy VIII, IX, and X, stating that these titles significantly shaped his creative vision. However, he clarified that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is not a direct imitation but rather a reflection of his personal gaming history and artistic sensibilities.

Expedition 33's combat system features real-time reactions within a turn-based framework. Players issue commands, but must also react swiftly to enemy attacks. This dynamic approach draws comparisons to titles like Persona and Sea of Stars.

The game's narrative revolves around preventing a mysterious Paintress from unleashing death through her art. The world itself is visually striking, featuring unique environments such as the gravity-defying Flying Waters.

Exploration offers complete character control, allowing players to switch between party members seamlessly and utilize unique traversal abilities to solve environmental puzzles. Broche even expressed a desire for players to experiment with unconventional strategies and character builds.
