肯德基创始人兼品牌吉祥物——肯德基上校桑，长期以来都是原田胜弘希望在其格斗游戏系列中出现的角色。然而，原田胜弘在最近的一次采访中表示，肯德基公司以及他自己的上司都否决了他的请求。“很久以前，我就想让肯德基上校桑来参加战斗，”原田胜弘告诉The Gamer。“所以我请求使用肯德基上校桑的形象，并联系了日本总部。”
这并非原田胜弘第一次谈到希望上校桑出现在Tekken系列中。他之前在其YouTube频道的老视频中表示，他很想让肯德基的标志性人物作为客串角色加入Tekken。原田胜弘还补充说，当他的Tekken x 上校桑的梦想被拒绝时，他受到了“冷遇”。因此，在可预见的未来，粉丝们不应期待在Tekken 8中出现任何肯德基的联动内容。
游戏设计师Michael Murray在接受The Gamer采访时，进一步详细介绍了原田胜弘与肯德基的沟通情况。显然，原田胜弘曾亲自联系肯德基，试图争取到上校桑的形象使用权，但“他们对这个想法并不十分开放，”Murray说。“[上校桑]之后也出现在了一些游戏中。所以也许只是他与某个角色对战[这一点]对他们来说是个问题。但这足以说明这类讨论有多么困难。”
在之前的采访中，原田胜弘曾表示，如果他能完全自由地创作，他“梦想着”在Tekken中加入肯德基上校桑。“老实说，我梦想着肯德基的上校桑出现在Tekken中。我和池田导演一起，为此角色构思了一个点子，”原田胜弘说。“我们知道如何把它做好。这将会非常棒。”然而，肯德基的市场部门似乎并没有像Tekken制作人那样对这种联动合作充满热情。“然而，市场部门不想同意，因为他们认为玩家不会喜欢它。”原田胜弘补充道，“每个人都在处处劝阻我们。所以如果肯德基的任何人读到这篇采访，请与我联系！”
