Keep Your Guard Up

Xu Wu's agility makes it a frustrating opponent in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its dark coloration and unusual form make anticipating its movements difficult. Adding to the challenge, Xu Wu utilizes its multiple arms and a surprising ability to vanish into walls, reappearing on the ceiling to ambush you. This tactic is limited to its nest, so exercise extra caution in that area.

Utilize Ice Attacks

Xu Wu's weakness to Ice makes it a prime target for Ice-elemental weapons and ammunition. Melee users should equip gear that inflicts Ice damage, and consider the Frost Jewel decoration for an Ice Attack boost. Frost Pods provide a handy source of minor Ice damage.

Evade the Grab Attack

In addition to its tentacle attacks and erratic movements, Xu Wu employs a dangerous grab attack. If caught, you'll be temporarily incapacitated. Your slinger is key to escaping – use it within the two-second window, with Frost Pods proving particularly effective.

Target Xu Wu's Mouth

Xu Wu's mouth is its most vulnerable point, but its location beneath its body makes it a challenging target, typically visible only during diving attacks. Landing a powerful blow during this brief opportunity can inflict significant damage and potentially break its mouth, yielding Xu Wu's fang.

If the mouth is inaccessible, the head provides a reliable alternative, boasting a 4-star weakness to blunt and cut damage and a 3-star weakness to ammo damage.

Exploit Poison Weakness

Xu Wu has a 3-star weakness to Poison. Bows with Poison Coating are particularly effective for inflicting this status ailment. While other status effects can be used, Sleep is largely ineffective.

Once Xu Wu's health drops to 20%, set a Pitfall or Shock Trap. Luring it with meat or even yourself is effective. Quickly follow up with a tranquilizer shot to secure the capture; you have a limited time before it breaks free.
