The inaugural trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has arrived, offering a first glimpse at the upcoming installment exactly one year before its release.

Scheduled to hit theaters on November 20, 2026, this new chapter transports viewers back to Panem twenty-four years prior to Jennifer Lawrence’s original saga. The story unfolds during the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, famously known as the Second Quarter Quell.

Directed by Francis Lawrence—who helmed four of the five films in the series starting with Catching Fire—the movie adapts Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel of the same name. It serves as the second prequel to the original trilogy, following The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (released as a film in 2023).

The trailer highlights the unique stakes of the Second Quarter Quell: each district must send four tributes—two boys and two girls—to the Capitol. This brings the total number of participants to 48, symbolizing the rule that "two rebels died for every one Capitol citizen."

The cast features Joseph Zada as a young Haymitch Abernathy (replacing Woody Harrelson), Elle Fanning as a youthful Effie Trinket (originally Elizabeth Banks), Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow (taking over from Donald Sutherland), and Glenn Close narrating the event. Additionally, Jesse Plemons portrays Plutarch Heavensbee (originally Philip Seymour Hoffman), while Succession’s Kieran Culkin plays a young Caesar Flickerman.
