Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. This formidable creature wields the lightning element, rendering it immune to lightning-based attacks. However, it's notably vulnerable to other elements, particularly water and ice. Aim for its head, which boasts a 4-star weakness, for maximum impact. Its wings are also a viable target, with a 3-star weakness.

Avoid striking its torso, as it's highly resilient. If hitting the head proves challenging, target its tail instead. The legs, while tempting, are well-protected and not ideal for dealing significant damage. For status ailments, you can use everything except Stun and Paralysis, as Rey Dau's lightning element makes these effects ineffective.

Use a Flash Pod

To swiftly take down Rey Dau, employ a Flash Pod. This tool temporarily stuns the monster, providing a window to land critical hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, seize the moment to strike its horns, which will glow bright red in Focus Mode, inflicting substantial damage.

Wear Element-Resistant Gear

If survival is your primary concern, equip gear that enhances your resistance to elements. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill, reduces incoming damage and offers resistance to Lightning and Fire. Additionally, consider consuming meals that boost your elemental resistance.

If dodging proves difficult, stay close to Rey Dau's legs. The monster primarily attacks areas in front and behind it, making its legs a safer zone.

Pay Attention to the Environment

Rey Dau's mobility requires you to adapt to your surroundings. In the open plains, utilize Vine Traps on lone trees to briefly stun the dragon. Be cautious when it returns to its nest, as it unleashes a follow-up lightning attack that can easily stun you. Avoid rushing in this area to prevent a fatal shock.

How to Capture Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds

Beyond battling Rey Dau to the death, capturing it yields additional rewards. To capture Rey Dau, reduce its health until it's near death, indicated by a skull icon near its icon on the mini-map. At this point, deploy a Pitfall Trap, as Shock Traps are ineffective against this lightning dragon. Follow up with a Tranquilizer within the brief window to ensure the capture.
