For fans of the long-running franchise Digimon, the upcoming Digimon Con 2025 promises to be an exciting event. You can anticipate a slew of new announcements and updates about forthcoming projects within the franchise. One particular teaser that has caught our attention features a confused Renamon alongside a mobile phone, sparking speculation and excitement.

The most immediate speculation is that this might be a hint toward a digital version of the Digimon Trading Card Game (TCG). Although there's already a tutorial app available for iOS and Android (a common feature for many of Bandai Namco's physical trading card games), the recent launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket suggests that a similar move for Digimon wouldn't be out of the question.

However, it's wise to temper our excitement slightly, as the teaser could simply mean that mobile devices are the preferred way to watch the upcoming livestream later this week, rather than indicating a new platform for the game itself.

Going digital, Digimon, while not unpopular, has always been somewhat overshadowed by Pokémon. In the late '90s and 2000s, there was a notable rivalry between the two, but while Digimon may hold a special place for nostalgic anime fans, Pokémon has undoubtedly claimed the global pop culture crown.

Launching a digital TCG for Digimon might not be an automatic success as it has been for Pokémon. However, it's also not a high-risk move, given the existing popularity of the Digimon TCG.
