The sender's identity remains unclear, despite initial reports implicating Invisible Narratives, the studio behind the Skibidi Toilet film and TV franchises. A Discord profile seemingly belonging to the Skibidi Toilet creator has since denied sending the notice, as reported by Dexerto.

The DMCA Claim and its Irony

The notice alleges that no licensed Skibidi Toilet content exists for Garry's Mod, demanding the removal of user-created games featuring the characters. This is particularly ironic, given the Skibidi Toilet series' origins in Garry's Mod assets, utilized by the YouTube channel DaFuq!?Boom! to create the viral videos that launched the franchise.

Garry Newman shared the DMCA notice on the s&box Discord server, highlighting the unexpected nature of the claim. Invisible Narratives' notice asserts copyright ownership of characters like Titan Cameraman, Titan Speakerman, Titan TV Man, and Skibidi Toilet. They cite DaFuq!?Boom! as the source of the characters.

The situation is complicated by the fact that Garry's Mod itself uses assets from Valve's Half-Life 2, yet Valve has authorized its release. This suggests Valve, as the original copyright holder, might have a stronger claim against unauthorized use of their assets than Invisible Narratives.

DaFuq!?Boom!'s Denial and Past Copyright Disputes

Following the public disclosure, DaFuq!?Boom! denied involvement in the DMCA notice on the s&box Discord server, expressing confusion and seeking contact with Garry Newman.

The DMCA notice was reportedly sent "on behalf of copyright holder: Invisible Narratives, LLC," referencing copyrights obtained in 2023 for "Titan Cameraman and 3 Other Unpublished Works." While DaFuq!?Boom!'s denial hasn't been confirmed, their past involvement in copyright disputes adds another layer to the complexity. Last September, they issued multiple copyright strikes against GameToons, a similar YouTube channel, eventually reaching a settlement.

The legitimacy of the DMCA notice remains uncertain, leaving the situation unresolved and highlighting the ongoing challenges of copyright in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
