The Yellow Orb in Dragon Quest 3 Remake is notoriously difficult to find, not because of challenging battles, but due to its hidden location and the game's reliance on NPC interactions. This guide will walk you through the process of acquiring this elusive orb.

The Yellow Orb is located in a town initially marked as "???" on the map. This town's name is determined by the merchant you establish there. To obtain the Yellow Orb, you must first establish and develop this village.

Locating and Establishing Merchantburg (???)

After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), sail to the northeast corner of the world map. You'll find the unmarked town, Merchantburg (???) indicated by a quest marker (if enabled).

Optimal Timing: While orb acquisition order is flexible, establishing Merchantburg early is recommended due to the town's growth period. Start this process as soon as you have the ship; you can collect other orbs concurrently.

Before arriving, hire a new merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat on your way to avoid unnecessary delays.

Upon entering the only building in Merchantburg, you'll encounter an old man seeking a merchant to found the town. Assign your newly hired merchant to this role. They'll leave your party and establish the town, revealing its name (e.g., Christopherburg if you named your merchant Christopher).

Growing Merchantburg and the Yellow Orb's Revelation

Following the suggested path of acquiring the Purple Orb (Orochi's Lair) and the Blue Orb (Gaia's Navel), you'll receive notifications urging you to return to Merchantburg. The town progresses through five growth stages. Each visit reveals a slightly larger town, culminating in a cabaret's construction. Beware of the security guard outside the cabaret—they'll try to overcharge you.

During your fourth visit, you'll notice the merchant becoming arrogant, foreshadowing their downfall and the orb's imminent availability.

For the fifth and final visit, go at night. You'll find the merchant missing. The townsfolk have revolted, imprisoning the merchant in the house south of their former residence.

Speak with the imprisoned merchant. They'll reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to the merchant's house; a quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground behind the sofa to unearth the Yellow Orb.

Typically, the Yellow Orb is acquired near the end, after obtaining the Red Orb (Pirates' Den), the Green Orb (Theddon), and the Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
