Dune: Awakening has surpassed one million copies sold within just two weeks of its release.

Developer Funcom shared the announcement earlier today, confirming an outstanding launch alongside a “very positive” user review rating on Steam. Over a million players have now “awakened,” making this Funcom’s fastest-selling title to date.

“Dune: Awakening launched on June 10, and one million players have already awakened!” the studio stated. “This marks Funcom’s fastest-selling game ever. To put that in perspective, it took Conan Exiles a full year to reach the same milestone. We are truly humbled and grateful for this incredible reception. We should also note that you players certainly aren’t living up to the ‘Sleeper’ title—you’ve been remarkably active since launch.

“Launch has been a Coriolis storm, and we’re still riding that powerful gale. We’ve witnessed so many amazing moments from all of you—the creative bases, the narrow escapes from Shai-Hulud, the epic vehicle jumps, the struggles, discoveries, victories, heroic deaths, and so much more… We salute you, Sleepers.”

Within hours of launch, Funcom’s survival RPG recorded over 142,000 concurrent players on Valve’s platform and reached a new peak last weekend of 189,333 players. The survival journey from a dehydrated peasant to a powerful warlord of Arrakis is a joy nearly every step of the way, and the story and worldbuilding filled this nerd with absolute delight.

“That said, Awakening still has areas to improve. Its combat never quite finds its rhythm, the endgame feels chaotic and not yet worth the grind, and several technical bugs remain to be ironed out. Still, these rough patches feel like tiny desert mice compared to the leviathan shai-huluds that are the game’s standout successes.”

Funcom is already “formulating a plan” to enhance PvP in the Deep Desert, an area some players have previously criticized as “toxic” due to griefing. The developer has already removed the ability for players to crush others with their Ornithopter, but senior game director Viljar Sommerbakk also mentioned the team is considering further Ornithopter adjustments, such as equipping them with rockets that would “reduce overall maneuverability and maximum speed.”
