A Daily Grind: No-Hit Messmer Battles

Instead of passively awaiting Nightreign, chickensandwich420 devised a challenging self-imposed task: defeating Messmer, a notoriously difficult boss from the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, every day. The challenge adds another layer of complexity: he uses a different weapon each time, aiming for a flawless no-hit victory, all while playing on NG+7.

His journey began on December 16, 2024, as documented on his YouTube channel. Initially planning a broader FromSoftware boss challenge, his university studies led him to focus on this more manageable, yet still incredibly demanding, goal.

Messmer's reputation precedes him; players report needing 30 to 150 attempts to defeat him, even with optimal gear. chickensandwich420's commitment is truly remarkable.

However, the challenge has a deadline: June 2025. If Nightreign doesn't launch by then, he'll shift his focus to other games. This sets a limit of approximately 160 Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's reached day 23.

Elden Ring: Nightreign, a three-player co-op spin-off set within the Elden Ring universe, was announced at The Game Awards 2024, with a projected 2025 release. Given FromSoftware's history, however, the actual release date remains uncertain.
