"Event Horizon: Dark Descent - A Long-Awaited Movie Prequel"

Nearly three decades after its initial release, Paul W.S. Anderson's iconic film "Event Horizon" is set to expand its universe with a new prequel. IDW Publishing has announced "Event Horizon: Dark Descent," a compelling five-issue comic book series that will delve into the chilling events preceding the film and uncover the harrowing fate of the original crew aboard the Event Horizon ship.
Crafted by writer Christian Ward, known for his work on "Batman: City of Madness," and artist Tristan Jones, acclaimed for "Aliens: Defiance," the series promises a visually stunning and narratively intense experience. The colors are brought to life by Pip Martin of "That Texas Blood" fame, while the cover art is a collaborative effort featuring designs by Ward, Jeffrey Alan Love, Martin Simmonds, and Joshua Hixson.

IDW's official synopsis teases a gripping narrative that embraces the film's hard-R rating: "EVENT HORIZON: DARK DESCENT #1 (of 5 issues) will lightspeed jump into comic shops this August. Set before the events of the film and welcoming to new readers, this series unravels the terrifying final journey of the original Event Horizon crew. Discover what truly befell Captain Kilpack and his team as they ventured into a realm of unimaginable horrors. Brace yourself as demonic forces, led by Paimon, the eyeless King of Hell, unleash torment and pure evil upon the crew in this harrowing tale."
Christian Ward expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "It's a huge privilege to be handed the keys of such a beloved film, one I take very seriously and I have some extremely exciting things up my sleeve. Big gory swings will be happening. You'll never see the film in the same light again."
Jones added, "I think what Christian's laying out and adding to the lore is going to surprise people. It's certainly given me a lot of gnarly, visceral stuff to chew on visually, which is always fun and knowing that this is being done directly in collaboration with the team behind the film certainly helps lock things in as something fans of the film will want to explore with us."
"Event Horizon: Dark Descent #1" is slated for release on August 20, 2025. For those eager to dive deeper into the "Event Horizon" universe, don't miss our retrospective on the film's 25th anniversary.
