PlayStation fans can rest assured: FF7 Remake Part 3 is coming to PS5. Kitase directly addressed concerns about the release history of the first two games, stating unequivocally, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)." While the PS5 is mid-lifecycle, the possibility of a PS6 release before the trilogy concludes remains uncertain.

FF7 Remake Part 3 Release Date: Still Under Wraps

Square Enix remains tight-lipped about the release date. Development, however, is progressing smoothly. In a January 23, 2025 Famitsu interview, Hamaguchi reported, "It’s going very well...We are progressing without any delay from the schedule we planned when we launched the remake project, so we hope you will look forward to it." Development reportedly began alongside FF7 Rebirth, with full production accelerating after its February 2024 release. The completed story and reusable assets from previous games suggest a potentially sooner-than-expected launch. Kitase expressed satisfaction with the completed story, stating, "At least I'm very satisfied with it, so I'm sure it will be a conclusion that will satisfy the fans as well."

Timed Exclusivity Expected

A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report indicated PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Following the pattern of previous releases (FF7 Remake: one-year PS4 exclusivity; FF7 Remake Intergrade: six-month PS5 exclusivity; FF7 Rebirth: timed PS5 exclusivity before January 23, 2025 PC release), Part 3 is likely to follow suit.

Square Enix's Multi-Platform Strategy

Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series and a strong PlayStation partnership, Square Enix's March 31, 2024 financial report revealed declining HD title sales. Citing higher development costs and advertising expenses, the company announced a shift to a multi-platform strategy encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms to boost sales. This suggests future Square Enix titles, including potentially future FF7 installments, may see wider releases beyond PlayStation.
