Fallout 76 Season 20 introduces an exciting new feature for players: the ability to transform into a Ghoul amidst the radiation-infested wasteland of Appalachia. This update, titled "The Ghoul Within," is now live and offers players a range of ghoul-specific features, mechanics, and new cosmetic options to enhance their C.A.M.P.

Unleash the Ghoul Within

With the latest update, players can embrace their inner Ghoul through a process called Ghoulification, initiated by completing the "Leap of Faith" questline. This quest leads players to a previously unexplored part of the Savage Divide, introducing them to new characters who assist in the transformation journey. As a Ghoul, players gain access to unique abilities such as Glow and Feral, along with 30 exclusive Ghoul Perks, referred to as "Gherks."

The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter that affects gameplay based on its level. At 0%, players experience significant changes, including a 150% boost to Melee Damage, but also suffer penalties like reduced Endurance, Charisma, Max HP, Max AP, and severely compromised gun and V.A.T.S. accuracy.

On the other hand, the Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and enhancing their health and healing capabilities. This ability not only makes players literally glow but also contributes to the effectiveness of their Ghoul-exclusive Perks.

Ghouls have 28 Perks to choose from, plus two new legendary perks. However, they cannot access Perks related to Hunger, Thirst, or Chem Resistance, as these are irrelevant to their new Ghoul physiology.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Navigating the wasteland as a Ghoul comes with its advantages, thanks to the Gherks and abilities that make exploring radiation-heavy areas easier. However, this transformation can lead to hostility from factions like the Brotherhood of Steel, potentially locking players out of certain questlines.

To mitigate this, players can utilize disguises provided by a new NPC named Jaye, allowing them to access content that would otherwise be restricted. If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit, players can revert to human form via the Character Screen, though this is a permanent decision. Reverting back to a Ghoul requires purchasing the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.

Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes

For those eager to dive into the action, the Level 50 Character Boost is now available for 1500 Atoms. This boost helps players quickly engage with multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and some story content.

The Season 20 update also includes various bug fixes, balance adjustments, accessibility improvements, combat tweaks, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda has also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, set for April 29, as part of their season calendar.
