The global anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI continues to build, but in the meantime, Rockstar Games has achieved a significant milestone by launching GTA V and GTA Online in both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Almost 12 years after its initial global debut and with over 215 million copies sold worldwide, the blockbuster 2013 title had never been officially available in these markets until now.

A combination of strict local regulations concerning content depicting violence, sexual themes, and drug use, along with unresolved age rating classifications, had historically prevented a legal release. As noted in a Niko Partners report, determined players in the region previously resorted to workarounds such as importing physical copies or using international PlayStation and Xbox store accounts.

This barrier has finally been removed. GTA V is now legally purchasable, having been approved under both nations' newly established 21+ age classification. The introduction of this more mature rating category—following the implementation of localized ratings in 2016—was crucial for the game's approval. The process was also supported by strategic efforts from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

A recent distribution partnership between Take-Two and Saudi Arabia's Advanced Initiative Company ensures the latter will manage local distribution for all Take-Two titles. This lineup includes GTA V, WWE 2K, NBA 2K, and Red Dead Redemption.

With a combined population nearing 44 million, this newly accessible market is now positioned to be a key sales region for the eventual launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.

After a lengthy development cycle and a recent major schedule revision, Grand Theft Auto VI is officially slated for release on May 9, 2026, barring any further delays.
