Harrison Ford Doesn't Care That Indiana Jones 5 Flopped, and Joined Marvel For a 'Good Time'
Harrison Ford remains unfazed by the critical and commercial underperformance of "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," simply stating, "s**t happens." He revealed to The Wall Street Journal Magazine that his decision to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe stemmed from a desire for a "good time."
Despite initiating the idea for a fifth Indiana Jones film, believing "there was another story to tell," Ford expresses no regret over its box office failure and estimated $100 million loss. He explained his motivation, saying, "When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened." He concluded, "I’m still happy I made that movie."
This setback hasn't deterred him from embracing another iconic franchise. Ford's involvement in the upcoming "Captain America: Brave New World" sees him stepping into the shoes of the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross, a character significantly expanded in this installment to become the Red Hulk.
Interestingly, Ford joined the MCU before learning of this transformation, having not even reviewed a script for "Brave New World." His decision was purely based on the prospect of enjoyment. He commented, "Why not? I saw enough Marvels to see actors that I admired having a good time. I didn’t really know that at the end I would turn into the Red Hulk. Well, it’s like life. You only get so far in the kit until the last page of the instructions is missing."
"Captain America: Brave New World," slated for release on February 14th, marks one of the shorter MCU entries to date. It features Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, replacing Chris Evans, and promises to delve into lesser-known Marvel characters, including a long-awaited payoff from "The Incredible Hulk" with the introduction of The Leader.
