NetEase's collectible card game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, is shutting down in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania on October 29th, 2024. While the game will continue in Asia and select MENA regions, this regional end-of-service (EOS) announcement marks the end of an era for many players.

Initially released in China in September 2021 and globally on June 27th, 2023, the game enjoyed a strong start but ultimately failed to maintain momentum. Despite its initial success and promising Clash Royale-inspired gameplay with a magical Hogwarts twist, player engagement waned.

The shift in the rewards system is cited as a major contributing factor to the game's decline. Changes that favored paying players over skilled players, coupled with nerfs and slower progression for free-to-play users, led to widespread player dissatisfaction, as evidenced by online forums.

The game has already been removed from app stores in the affected regions. However, players in other regions still have the opportunity to experience the dorm life, classes, secrets, and wizard duels that Harry Potter: Magic Awakened offers.
