Baldur's Gate 3 remains incredibly popular eighteen months after launch, with players still deeply engaged in their second, third, or even tenth playthroughs. Now that developer Larian Studios has decided to step away from the franchise, Hasbro faces the challenge of determining Baldur's Gate's future. Fortunately, fans won't have to wait too long for updates.

Speaking exclusively to IGN at this week's Game Developers Conference, Hasbro's Senior Vice President of Digital Games Dan Ayoub revealed strong industry interest in continuing the Baldur's Gate series following Larian's departure.

"We're currently finalizing our strategy for Baldur's Gate going forward," Ayoub explained. "We'll be sharing concrete details about our plans relatively soon."

Ayoub remained tight-lipped about whether these developments would involve a full Baldur's Gate sequel or potential crossovers similar to previous Magic: The Gathering collaborations. However, he confirmed his personal desire for Baldur's Gate 4 while acknowledging such project would require substantial development time.

"We're approaching this thoughtfully," he emphasized. "There's no rush—we're carefully evaluating multiple creative directions. We're preparing to start discussing our initial concepts fairly soon."

The executive openly addressed the significant pressure surrounding any follow-up to Baldur's Gate 3, noting these high expectations extend to other Dungeons & Dragons gaming projects Hasbro currently has in development.
