Herta, also known as Madam Herta, is a formidable 5-Star Ice Erudition character in Honkai: Star Rail and an Emanator of Nous, the Aeon of Erudition. As member 83 of the Genius Society and founder of Herta Space Station, she inspires the many Herta puppets modeled after her younger self, including the playable 4-star version.

As an Erudition character, Herta excels in AoE scenarios but remains effective against smaller groups. Her kit includes potent self-buffs and damage multipliers, such as an 80% CRIT DMG boost for the team when paired with another Erudition unit and a three-turn ATK buff from her Ultimate. This makes Herta relatively easy to build with accessible, F2P-friendly Light Cones and team options.

Herta’s playstyle centers on accumulating Inspiration stacks for herself and Interpretation stacks on enemies. Consuming an Inspiration stack enhances her Skill, while her Talent and Traces increase damage from her Enhanced Skill and Ultimate based on enemies’ Interpretation stacks. Top Herta Relics in Honkai: Star Rail

When optimizing Herta, prioritize ATK, CRIT Rate, and CRIT DMG. Her Enhanced Skill and Ultimate drive most of her damage, so boosts to these abilities are critical. While SPD is useful, its priority depends on team synergy.

The Scholar Lost in Erudition set is Herta’s ideal Relic choice, offering an 8% CRIT Rate boost and a 20% damage increase to her Skill and Ultimate. It also grants a 25% damage boost to the next Skill after her Ultimate, Told Ya! Magic Happens, which provides an Inspiration stack and immediate action for her Skill.

For those without Scholar Lost in Erudition, the Hunter of Glacial Forest set is a strong alternative, providing a 10% Ice DMG boost and a 25% CRIT DMG increase for two turns after an Ultimate. Farming Scholar Lost in Erudition is more efficient, as it shares a Cavern of Corrosion with Sacerdos’ Relived Ordeal, a top-tier support Relic set.

For newer players, any 2-piece combination of CRIT Rate, Ice DMG, or ATK% works as a temporary option until better sets are obtained.

For Planar Ornaments, Izumo Gensei and Takama Divine Realm is the top choice, granting a 12% ATK boost and a 12% CRIT Rate increase when paired with another Erudition ally. This set enhances Herta’s Talent, amplifying Interpretation stack damage, while her A4 Trace boosts team-wide CRIT DMG by 80% and increases Interpretation stacks for Erudition units.

Rutilant Arena is a solid alternative, offering an 8% CRIT Rate boost and a 20% Skill damage increase, with performance close to Izumo Gensei when paired with strong substats. Its versatility makes it a practical farming option for multiple units.

Sigonia, the Unclaimed Desolation excels in Pure Fiction but is less effective in other modes. Since it can be farmed alongside Izumo Gensei, players may keep a dedicated Sigonia set for Pure Fiction.

Herta’s A4 Trace provides 80% CRIT DMG in combat, so a CRIT Rate chest is recommended to reach the ideal 100% CRIT Rate. Support units like Sunday or Remembrance Trailblazer can help bridge CRIT Rate gaps.

Herta’s SPD needs vary based on teammates and Eidolons. She can function at base SPD with allies like Jade, who boosts her SPD by 30 and aids stack generation. Eidolons like E1 (reducing Interpretation stack threshold) and E4 (12% SPD boost for Erudition units) allow her to reach 134 SPD without SPD boots, while higher breakpoints like 146 or 164 are achievable with SPD boots and synergy.

Energy from Herta’s A2 and A4 Traces is fixed and unaffected by an Energy Regeneration Rope.

Best Herta Light Cones in Honkai: Star Rail

Herta’s signature Light Cone, Into the Unreachable Veil, is her best option, offering the highest base ATK among Erudition Light Cones. At S1, it provides a 12% CRIT Rate boost, a 60% damage increase to her Skill and Ultimate for three turns after her Ultimate, and Skill Point recovery if the Ultimate costs 140+ Energy. This enhances both damage and team efficiency.

Alternatives include Night on the Milky Way, which shines with multiple enemies, and An Instant Before A Gaze, boosting CRIT DMG and Ultimate damage. Before Dawn and Yet Hope Is Priceless serve as strong stat sticks, enhancing CRIT DMG, Skill, and Ultimate damage or CRIT Rate, respectively.

Night on the Milky Way’s effectiveness drops with fewer than four enemies or without its DMG bonus active.

For 4-star options, Today Is Another Peaceful Day and Geniuses’ Repose are excellent for F2P players, with the former at S5 outperforming many 5-star Light Cones. Free Erudition Light Cones like Eternal Calculus, The Day The Cosmos Fell, and The Seriousness of Breakfast are viable at S5 for newer players.
