League of Legends Back Tracks on Their Unpopular Changes

Hextech Chests Are Coming Back

League of Legends (LoL) is reintroducing Hextech Chests following significant fan feedback. Riot Games released a detailed developer update on their website on February 27, 2025, and shared a corresponding video on their YouTube channel. In the update, LoL acknowledged that recent changes did not meet the expectations of their community, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."

One key change that fans particularly missed was Hextech Chests. LoL recognized their importance, explaining, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."

In response, Hextech Chests will return starting in patch 25.05. Players will have the opportunity to earn up to 10 chests and keys per act, with 8 available through the free pass and 2 more obtainable via the Honor system.

Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and More Fan Feedback Changes

Riot Games also announced that the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, along with the entire Exalted skin line, will be delayed. The team aims to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This means fans will not see a new Exalted skin in every Act this year, contrary to initial plans.

Responding to further fan feedback, LoL will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence. This change addresses concerns about a lack of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the introduction of too many champions for each seasonal theme.

LoL also values players' accessibility to their champions. In response to recent discussions about blue essence and champion shards, the game will reduce the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting in patch 25.05.

Another decision the developers are reversing involves Clash. Previously, they had planned to run Clash less frequently. Now, LoL is reinstating Clash's monthly schedule, with March's event featuring ARURF, followed by a regular Summoner's Rift Clash in April.

Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Returns

In response to popular demand, LoL will also bring back fan-favorite shops. Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium will make their first appearances of the year in patches 25.06 and 25.07, respectively.

Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
