Infinity Nikki Players Protest Update 1.5, Threaten Uninstallation Over Controversial Changes

May 20,25(10 months ago)

The release of Infinity Nikki and its multiplayer-focused 1.5 update on Steam has sparked significant controversy and drama among its fanbase. Infold Games’ stylish dress-up adventure, which was previously exclusive to the Epic Game Store, made its way to Valve's digital platform, but the launch was overshadowed by a series of technical issues, unexpected design changes, and demanding outfit requirements. In response, the developers issued an apology and promised compensation, yet the struggle for the future of Infinity Nikki is ongoing.

PC players eagerly awaited Infinity Nikki's Steam release, but their excitement was quickly dampened by technical problems, including crashes and general instability that prevented the game from launching. While technical issues at launch are not uncommon, the influx of players also highlighted other concerns. The introduction of two new five-star outfits, Snowbound Ballad and Undying Ember, each requiring 11 pieces to complete, came as a surprise to the community. This means players could need up to 220 pulls to collect full sets, a significant increase from what they were accustomed to, raising fears about future outfit requirements.

Adding to the confusion, Infold extended the Crown of Miraland: Peak Arena event from two to three weeks. This unexpected change, coupled with the technical issues and the new monetization strategies, led to a backlash from the Chinese player base on the social media platform RedNote. The discontent quickly escalated into a global movement, with players worldwide calling for a boycott of Infinity Nikki on Steam, leaving negative reviews, and uninstalling the game across all platforms.

In response to the uproar, Reddit user kiaxxl initiated a call-to-action post, urging players to hold off on spending and pulling for a few days to send a message to the developers. "For gacha games, tracking how successful a new batch of content is usually measured on the first few days. Holding back your pulls for a couple of days can help show we want IN to remain fun and fair for all players," they explained.

The community's reaction has been palpable, with Infinity Nikki now holding a "Mixed" rating on Steam due to numerous negative reviews. In an effort to quell the unrest, Infold issued an apology letter across its official channels, acknowledging the technical issues and promising improved communication about future changes.

Apology Letter Regarding Version 1.5 Gaming Experience

Dear Stylists,
Hope this message finds you well.
First and foremost, we would like to extend our sincerest apologies. We are truly sorry that we were unable to provide you with a stable experience upon the release of the new… pic.twitter.com/YEjpGQpKho

The letter included commitments to revert Mira Crown's end date to May 16 and start the next season on the same day, alongside compensation in the form of 10 Revelation Crystals, 10 Resonance Crystals, and 1200 Diamonds. While this move was seen as a step in the right direction, many players feel it falls short of the comprehensive changes they seek.

Despite the concessions, concerns persist about the decision to maintain the 11-piece requirement for new outfits. On social media, players like Denise92 expressed frustration over the drop rates and the need for more diamonds to acquire crystals, highlighting ongoing dissatisfaction with the game's monetization model.

I wish you would finally change the drop rate.. it can't be that I need 200 pulls to get a 5-star and then you drop like 5 banners within weeks?! Make the rate lower or give us more diamonds to be able to get crystals.. this is not fun!

The community has begun celebrating the swift response from Infold, but boycotters are urging others to maintain pressure. As Reddit user EdensAsmr pointed out, accepting the 11-piece outfits and pity system as they are could set a precedent for future updates, potentially requiring players to save even more resources.
