Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto, was a frontrunner in the shift towards $70 AAA game pricing. Concerns exist that this trend might continue, or even escalate, with the release of Grand Theft Auto VI.

While the standard edition of GTA VI might remain in the $70 range, avoiding a jump to $80-$100, industry insiders suggest a premium edition priced at $100-$150 could be offered, potentially including early access.

Tez2 further notes that, unlike previous titles, GTA VI will launch with its online component sold separately from the story mode. The story mode will be part of a "complete package" encompassing both.

This dual-release model introduces pricing complexities. The cost of the standalone online component will influence the base game price, and the upgrade cost for story mode access for those who purchased only the online version remains unknown.

A lower price point for the online version could attract players unable to afford the full $70 or $80 game, creating an opportunity for Take-Two. These players could then be incentivized to upgrade to access the story mode. Furthermore, Take-Two could leverage GTA+ subscription services, providing an alternative to a one-time story mode purchase, generating recurring revenue from players who choose continuous gameplay over a single purchase. This strategy allows Take-Two to maximize profits across multiple revenue streams.
