Jon Bernthal is set to reprise his iconic role as the Punisher following the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. Fans can look forward to a thrilling Marvel special that promises to be as explosive and emotionally charged as a Guardians of the Galaxy adventure. Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Bernthal will not only star but also co-write the special alongside Reinaldo Marcus Green, the acclaimed director of We Own This City.

Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "It's like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story. It's so exciting."

The announcement of the Punisher one-shot coincides with Marvel Television's plans to bring back the Defenders on Disney+. This gritty superhero team, featuring Matt Murdock's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist, was previously showcased on Netflix before their episodes were integrated into the MCU canon on Disney+.

Brad Winderbaum shared his excitement about revisiting this universe, telling Entertainment Weekly, "It’s certainly exciting to be able to play in that sandbox. Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it. We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."

Daredevil: Born Again, set to release on March 4, picks up where the Netflix series left off, bringing back familiar faces such as the Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk (Kingpin). This season introduces a new threat in the form of the artistically inclined serial killer known as Muse.
