Disney veteran Jon Favreau is teaming up with the entertainment giant to develop a Disney+ series centered on classic animation icon Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

According to a Deadline report, the actor-director will combine live-action and animation techniques to adapt Oswald for Disney's streaming platform. Favreau will both write and produce the series, though specific plot details and casting announcements remain under wraps.

While Oswald holds historical significance in Disney's animated roster, his early tenure with the company was brief. Created by Walt Disney himself, the character appeared in only 26 silent cartoons between 1927-1928 before rights issues transferred ownership to Universal. Disney regained Oswald's rights in 2006, reviving the character in 2022 with its first new Oswald short film in 95 years. Though no release date is confirmed, the hybrid live-action/animation project is expected to debut in coming years.

As Favreau develops this classic Disney property, he continues shaping modern franchises.
