Keanu Reeves has delivered the most encouraging update yet on the highly anticipated sequel, Constantine 2, revealing that the project is now poised to move forward with script development. John Constantine, the iconic occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was brought to life by Reeves in the 2005 film, which has since achieved cult status among fans. For two decades, enthusiasts have clamored for a sequel, a desire echoed by Reeves himself.

In a recent development, Reeves shared with Inverse that a pitch meeting with DC Studios has yielded positive results. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay,'" Reeves explained. "So, we're going to try and write a script." This marks a significant step forward for the project, although it's important to note that a green light from DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran is still pending. Constantine 2 has not been officially confirmed as part of the rebooted DCU, leaving its fate somewhat uncertain.

Despite this, Reeves hinted that if Constantine 2 comes to fruition, it will continue in "the same world" as the original film. With a touch of humor, he added, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more." This statement aligns with the character's traditionally tormented narrative.

Further fueling anticipation, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura shared with ComicBook that a script for Constantine 2 is already in his inbox. However, he admitted to being "too scared to read it" out of a deep desire for the script to meet the high expectations set by the first film. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
