What Are Legendary Sumi-E in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Legendary Sumi-E in Assassin’s Creed Shadows are special paintings of animals that Naoe or Yasuke can create while exploring the wild. You'll spot a painting icon on your compass and map when you're close to one of these targets. To capture these moments, you need to approach stealthily, crouch down, and hold L2/LT until the painting is complete. Unlike regular Sumi-E, the legendary ones don't appear on the map, making them more challenging to find. There are five legendary Sumi-E in the game, and their availability depends on the season.

All Legendary Sumi-E Locations in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Legendary Tanuki – Summer, Daytime

To find the Legendary Tanuki Sumi-E, head to the Omi region during the summer, in the daytime. Navigate to the Shimmering Fields, specifically the Shigaraki Hamlet. Once there, you'll see Tanuki statues around. Follow the path uphill to a clearing where you'll find the legendary Tanuki. Approach quietly to complete the drawing.

Legendary Grey Heron – Winter, Daytime

The Grey Heron can be found in Wakasa, in the Lake Suigetsu area during winter, in the daytime. Head to the cluster of islands west of Lake Suigetsu. Approach the area on foot to avoid scaring the heron away, locate the Sumi-E opportunity, and carefully sneak up to complete the painting.

Legendary Macaque – All Seasons, Nighttime

Ride to the Yamashiro region, specifically the Little Leaf Glade sub-region, and locate the Sarumaru Shrine near the mountains. Wait for nighttime, climb the stairs to the top, and you'll find the three wise monkeys ready for you to paint.

Legendary Silver Fox – Autumn, Nighttime

To capture the legendary Silver Fox Sumi-E, journey to the Kii region during autumn at night. Visit the Nakahechi Route sub-region and the Kamimisu Inari Shrine, where you'll see fox statues. Find the fox at the cliff’s edge and carefully approach to paint it.

Legendary Deer – Spring, Nighttime

Head to the Yamato region in spring at night. Fast-travel to the Mountain Blossom Temple in the Yoshino sub-region, then head east along the path to reach Sakura Meadows. Climb the slopes to a clearing where you'll find the legendary Deer to complete your Sumi-E collection.

Keep in mind that even if you're at the right location and time, the animals might not spawn. If this happens, fast-travel to a nearby location and return to see if your luck changes. With persistence, you'll soon complete your collection.
