Lost Fantasy reunites Pires with Money artist Luca Casalanguida. The first issue boasts cover art from Casalanguida, Alex Diotto, Darick Robertson, and Jae Lee. The series also includes a serialized backup story, Indigo Children: Exodus, a continuation of Pires' sci-fi series.

Image Comics provides the following synopsis:

In Lost Fantasy, a hidden magical world exists beneath our own. First contact occurred over a century ago following a natural disaster, creating a rift that unleashed monsters. Since then, elite monster hunters, known as The Great Hunters, have collaborated with global leaders to protect our world. But a recent catastrophic event in Montana has shattered the fragile peace, threatening both worlds. Rookie monster hunter Henry Blackheart must confront this new threat.

"I'm thrilled to be back at Image Comics with Lost Fantasy," Pires shared with IGN. "It blends my love for Western comics like East of West and Something is Killing the Children with the rich world-building and action of the JRPGs I grew up with."

He continued, "The protagonist's spiky hair and giant sword are a direct homage to Tetsuya Nomura's iconic Final Fantasy designs. The 'Lost' in the title is a subtle nod to Hironobu Sakaguchi's Lost Odyssey, a criminally underrated masterpiece."
