Hasbro has announced its ambitious plan to bring the beloved card game, Magic: The Gathering, to screens worldwide. Partnering with Legendary Entertainment, they aim to craft a comprehensive shared universe that encompasses both movies and television series, with the movie taking precedence.

"We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering," stated Legendary's chairman of worldwide production. Legendary Entertainment, known for their work on films like Dune and the modern Godzilla series, including Godzilla vs. Kong, and Detective Pikachu, is set to bring this iconic game to life on screen.

While details remain somewhat unclear, it appears that the upcoming movie and TV adaptations at Legendary may not be connected to the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series slated for Netflix. However, it's possible that plans could shift, integrating the animated series into this expansive shared universe.

Originally created by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, Magic: The Gathering has evolved into one of the world's most popular trading card games. Wizards of the Coast became part of Hasbro in 1999, marking the beginning of a new era for the game.

Hasbro is well-versed in transforming its products into cinematic experiences, having produced films based on properties like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. Currently, the company is developing several projects, including new G.I. Joe films, a Power Rangers movie, and a Beyblade film.
