Mario Kart World's Free Roam: An Open World Adventure with Friends

During today's Mario Kart World Direct, we delved deeper into the highly anticipated Free Roam mode, providing fans with exciting new details about its multiplayer features and the activities available within the expansive world of Mario Kart.

Although we had the chance to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a comprehensive look at the Free Roam mode and its possibilities. This innovative feature allows players to explore the vast, Forza Horizon-inspired world map of Mario Kart World freely. Unlike previous Mario Kart games, where race tracks are isolated and only accessible during races, Mario Kart World integrates these tracks into an open world, enabling players to seamlessly transition between tracks in specific game modes and enjoy the freedom to explore the areas in between.

In Free Roam mode, when you're not engaged in racing, you can embark on a mini-adventure. The world is dotted with various hidden collectibles such as coins and ? panels, though their specific functions remain a mystery for now. Additionally, P-Switches are scattered throughout, which, when activated, trigger mini-challenges like collecting blue coins.

Free Roam mode also introduces a Photo Mode, allowing players to capture their racers in a variety of poses and angles at any time. Moreover, Free Roam isn't limited to solo play. You can explore the world with friends, take photos together, tackle challenges, or simply hang out. The mode supports up to four players in split-screen on the same system, and up to eight players in total through local wireless play, with two players per system.
