"Marvel Rivals to Introduce Monthly Heroes from Season 3"
Exciting times lie ahead for *Marvel Rivals* players, as the developers have announced a bold new plan to keep the game fresh and engaging. NetEase revealed that starting with Season 3, they will be releasing a brand-new hero every single month—doubling down on their original schedule of two heroes per season. This change is part of a broader strategy to enhance player engagement and maintain the momentum seen since the game’s launch.
New Heroes Every Month Starting Season 3
In a recent update shared during Marvel Rivals’ Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4, Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong confirmed that each season will now last just two months instead of three. More importantly, a new playable hero will drop every 30 days, ensuring a steady stream of content that keeps the meta evolving and the gameplay experience dynamic.
Guangguang explained the decision by stating, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month." He also acknowledged the influence of community feedback, noting that social media conversations have helped shape this direction and added pressure to deliver consistent, high-quality updates.
In addition to monthly heroes, the team is also exploring the introduction of new game modes in the future. If implemented, this could mean up to 12 new characters joining the roster annually—offering players more variety and depth than ever before.
Of course, maintaining balance across so many heroes presents a challenge. To tackle this, Guangguang highlighted the team’s reliance on key performance metrics such as pick rates, win rates, ability usage stats, and more. As he told PC Gamer on March 14, “This data serves as the foundation for our balancing efforts,” ensuring that no character becomes overpowered or underwhelming in the long run.
Season 2 Details and What Comes Next
The latest Dev Vision also gave fans a closer look at Season 2, themed around the Hellfire Gala. In this storyline, players are invited by the newly introduced hero Emma Frost to the Mutant sanctuary of Krakoa. Emma Frost, a powerful X-Men villain known for her telepathic abilities and diamond form, will serve as a Vanguard in *Marvel Rivals*, bringing unique gameplay mechanics to the table.
The Hellfire Gala draws inspiration from Marvel’s elite secret society, the Hellfire Club—a group of influential elites who manipulate world events behind the scenes. The in-game celebration promises a luxurious atmosphere filled with dazzling visuals and exclusive cosmetic rewards. The trailer teased upcoming formalwear-themed skins for Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, Black Panther, and others.
Following Emma Frost, Season 2.5 will introduce one of Marvel’s most iconic antagonists—Ultron. The Hellfire Gala festivities are disrupted by an invasion of Ultron drones, kicking off what appears to be a dramatic Age of Ultron arc. While details about Ultron’s abilities remain scarce, his arrival marks a major narrative turning point for the game.
Thor and Hawkeye Get New Epic Skins
On April 4, *Marvel Rivals* celebrated its ongoing evolution with the release of two brand-new skins for Thor and Hawkeye. These designs bring comic-accurate aesthetics into the game, offering players a chance to play as some of the most iconic looks from Marvel lore.
- Thor – Lord of Asgard: Inspired by his revival by Odin in the comics, this skin includes the Rune King costume, a custom spray, nameplate, the Omniscient MVP animation, and the Well of Mimir emote.
- Hawkeye – Ronin: Based on Clint Barton’s vigilante samurai persona from the comics, the bundle features the Ronin skin, matching spray and nameplate, the Deadly Rain MVP, and the Hone to Perfection emote.
These additions reflect NetEase’s long-term commitment to supporting *Marvel Rivals* for at least a decade. With regular hero drops, shorter seasons, and exciting new story arcs on the horizon, the game continues to evolve in ways that engage both casual players and competitive fans alike.
