Marvel Rivals Players Are Risking Account Bans to Mod the Game Even After Season 1 Clampdown
Marvel Rivals players are risking account bans by continuing to use mods, even after a Season 1 crackdown. Since the game's successful December launch, players have customized their experience with mods, creating skins like Vegeta-Iron Man and goth Mantis—even transforming Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita from Chainsaw Man.
Last week's Season 1 update, featuring the Fantastic Four, included a secret anti-modding measure: asset hash checking. Developer NetEase reiterated its terms of service, which prohibit mods, cheats, bots, hacks, and unauthorized third-party software, warning players of potential bans. Despite this, a workaround is circulating online, requiring more steps but accessible to many PC players.
Modder Prafit, who shared a workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users: "Use at your own risk." While no permanent bans have been reported, the workaround circumvents NetEase's anti-modding system, leaving the risk of future action unclear.
New mods, leveraging the Fantastic Four additions, have already appeared. Ercuallo's mod, transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy from One Piece, boasts over 5,000 downloads in just two days (Nexus Mods stats).

The key question remains: will NetEase ban players? While no bans have been publicly confirmed, the workaround could trigger further action. NetEase likely aims to prevent lost revenue from skin sales, protect intellectual property, and maintain gameplay balance and performance—a concern echoed by Prafit, who notes their workaround requires a powerful PC.
