The film adaptation of Sleeping Dogs, confirmed cancelled earlier this month, may now be revived thanks to Marvel star Simu Liu. According to Newsweek, Liu responded to a fan on X/Twitter requesting an adaptation of the 2012 video game by stating he is working to get the project off the ground. "Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen," he wrote. Originally announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, the movie vanished a year later; just weeks ago, Yen himself confirmed it had been scrapped. "I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights," Yen explained. "I waited for years... And I really wanted to do it. And unfortunately... I don't know. You know how Hollywood goes, right?" All hope for this Hong Kong-set action franchise seemed lost until Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Liu replied to a random social media post. It remains unclear whether he will secure the film rights or find another way to move the project forward. Released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, Sleeping Dogs follows detective Wei Shen as he infiltrates one of Hong Kong's most notorious Triad crime syndicates. Despite receiving critical acclaim—including an 8/10 from IGN—the game saw no direct sequels released.
