Every Marvel TV Show in the Disney+ Era Ranked

From the iconic Incredible Hulk TV series to the groundbreaking network shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the gritty Netflix series introducing characters such as Daredevil and Luke Cage to streaming audiences, Marvel Comics have been a rich source of inspiration for television adaptations. Past efforts to integrate these live-action shows into the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have often faltered—remember Runaways and Cloak and Dagger? However, 2021 marked a pivotal shift when Marvel Studios launched a new era by flooding their flagship streaming platform, Disney+, with series intricately linked to their blockbuster film franchise.
As the charming Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man swings onto our screens as the 13th Disney+ Marvel show in just four years, it's an ideal moment to reflect on the Marvel Studios television offerings that preceded it. Much like the Avengers enjoying shawarma amidst New York's ruins, our Marvel experts at IGN convened to rank all 12 of the Disney+ Marvel TV shows to date, culminating in a collective ranking. Keep an eye out for the addition of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man once the series concludes.

12. Secret Invasion
It's almost surreal to discuss the disappointment of Secret Invasion, a series that, despite its significance in Marvel Comics history, failed to meet expectations and landed unanimously at the bottom of our rankings. Director Ali Selim's admission of not engaging with the source material signaled a disconnect from the comic's legacy. While the MCU has shown that deviations can lead to fresh and vibrant adaptations, Secret Invasion lacked the necessary depth and innovation.
Attempting to channel the espionage vibe of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the show centered on Nick Fury's (Samuel L. Jackson) efforts to thwart a Skrull invasion. However, its slow pace, an AI-generated opening, the abrupt and controversial treatment of a beloved female character, and the introduction of a peculiar new superpowered figure left it languishing at the bottom of the MCU's Disney+ offerings.
Echo
Echo marks a significant jump in quality from Secret Invasion, landing in the 11th spot. Alaqua Cox reprises her role as the deaf Cheyenne superhero Echo from Hawkeye, delivering an intimate and action-packed narrative about her journey back to her roots, grappling with her powers, her past, and her complex relationship with Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio), the villain who raised her.
Despite a shortened episode run that left some fans wanting more, Echo features standout action sequences, including an electrifying opening fight with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox). The series also breaks new ground with a predominantly indigenous cast and crew, making it a unique, emotionally resonant addition to the MCU, even if it didn't achieve the impact of higher-ranked shows.
Moon Knight
Despite starring Oscar Isaac, Moon Knight ranks surprisingly low. The series delves into the dark and mysterious world of Marc Spector, whose multiple personalities navigate a whirlwind of chaos and combat. Blending elements from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Indiana Jones, and the surrealism of Fox's Legion, Moon Knight offers a unique take on the antihero genre.
The introduction of Scarlet Scarab (May Calamawy) added a fresh face to the MCU, and the strong performances by F. Murray Abraham as Khonshu and Ethan Hawke as Dr. Arthur Harrow bolstered the cast. Yet, the series didn't resonate enough with our voters to secure a higher spot or a second season.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Expected to soar, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier faced challenges in taking flight. Starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, the series benefited from the duo's chemistry but was weighed down by complex moral dilemmas, a heavy focus on the Blip's aftermath, and an espionage-centric plot that overshadowed the anticipated high-flying action.
As Marvel Studios' first TV venture, it was initially set to premiere before the global health crisis reshuffled release plans, allowing WandaVision to debut first. The production faced delays from March to August 2020, potentially impacting the final product. Nonetheless, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has provided key narrative developments for the MCU, particularly in relation to this year's Thunderbolts film.
