Master Bow Techniques in Monster Hunter Wilds: Essential Moves and Combos

Unlike other weapons in *Monster Hunter Wilds*, using the bow requires careful management of your stamina bar. Each attack you perform consumes stamina, with light attacks using minimal amounts and charged attacks taking a significant toll. To execute a simple attack, you can left-click on your mouse or press the R2/RT button on your controller. Experimenting with different combos such as Dragon Piercer or Thousand Dragons can enhance your gameplay. Here's a detailed look at the controls for using the bow:

Attack Monster's Weak Spots

One of the key advantages of the bow is the ability to target a monster's weak spots with precision. By using Focus Fire: Hailstorm, your arrows will automatically lock onto these vulnerable areas. After focusing your aim, red spots will appear on the enemy, indicating where to shoot. Simply hold down Shift or R1/RB to lock onto these targets and maximize your damage.

Use Coatings

Another vital feature of the bow in *Monster Hunter Wilds* is the use of coatings. These special concoctions can enhance your arrows' effects without the need for crafting. Your character will generate coatings as you hit enemies with regular arrows, which you can monitor via the blue bar in the bottom right corner of your screen.

To maximize your effectiveness, continue regular attacks until the gauge is full. Then, press R, Triangle, or Y to apply coatings to your arrows. Each bow can utilize two types of coatings from the following list:

  • Power Coating – Increases the overall damage of your arrows.
  • Pierce Coating – Enhances the Dragon Piercer ability to pierce through armor.
  • Close-Range Coating – Boosts your damage at close range.
  • Paralysis Coating – Gradually inflicts Paralysis on the target.
  • Exhaust Coating – Slowly causes Stun and Exhaustion.
  • Sleep Coating – Gradually induces Sleep on the target.
  • Poison Coating – Slowly inflicts Poison.
  • Blast Coating – Gradually causes Blast damage.

Use Tracer Arrow

The Tracer Arrow is another valuable tool at your disposal. When fired, it sticks to a monster for a limited duration, allowing subsequent arrows to home in on it. This feature is particularly useful for creating and exploiting weak spots on a monster. Keep in mind that using Tracer Arrows consumes coating points, so use them strategically.

Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
