"Mastering Rune Slayer Fishing: A Beginner's Guide"

If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is an MMORPG, let the presence of fishing put those doubts to rest. While it's said in jest, fishing is a staple feature of many MMORPGs, and *Rune Slayer* is no exception. Here's your comprehensive guide to mastering the art of fishing in *Rune Slayer*. It's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*, but don't worry—we've got you covered on how to catch those elusive fish.
Before You Start Fishing in *Rune Slayer*
Before you dive into the waters of *Rune Slayer*, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. This white-haired NPC awaits you at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon's quest is simple: catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box. Note the quotation marks around "fish"—you'll understand why soon enough.
Here's the catch: to reel in any fish, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman has just what you need.
**Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. While most players suggest having at least 5 worms, we recommend buying 10 to be on the safe side. And before you wonder, **no, you cannot equip the bait**. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory; they're automatically used when you fish. Each time you catch something, one Worm will be removed from your inventory.
Here's a crucial detail: **you won't be able to catch any fish unless you have at least 5 bait items**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. It was only after we had 5 Worms in our inventory that we started catching fish. We suggest placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep an eye on your bait count. Once you're equipped, you're ready to move on to the next step.
How to Catch Fish in *Rune Slayer*
First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can't equip it in the traditional sense, so just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory. Your character will then hold it with both hands.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water**—the pier next to Simon the Fisherman is a great spot. Keep an eye on the bobber, and when you see it **ripple once or twice**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's that simple.
However, this method isn't foolproof. Often, you won't catch anything at all. Other times, you might reel in junk, but here's the good news: **Simon counts junk as a catch**, which explains the earlier quotation marks around "fish."
So, your goal is to cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and reel in anything five times. In our experience, we caught only two actual fish, while the rest were Old Cups.
**Once you've caught 5 "fish," return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to free up your inventory space for more important items.
And that's all there is to fishing in *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your time on the water, and if you need more guidance, don't forget to check out our **The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to *Rune Slayer***.
