Metal Slug: Awakening delivers a modern update to the beloved '90s run-and-gun franchise. Initially revealed in 2020 as Metal Slug Code: J by TiMi Studios, the game has undergone development and name changes, finally arriving after its Southeast Asia release in late 2023.

For the uninitiated, Metal Slug is a celebrated Japanese run-and-gun series, debuting in 1996 from Nazca Corporation and later expanding into a multimedia franchise. While previous mobile entries like Metal Slug Defense (2014), Metal Slug Attack (2016), and Metal Slug Commander (2020) exist, Awakening promises a significant upgrade.

This new installment stays true to its roots with classic gameplay, enhanced by modern graphics and innovative mechanics. Rejoin familiar characters in new adventures, featuring a World Adventure mode, 3-player cooperative Team-up battles, and challenging Roguelike encounters.
