Monster Hunter Wilds is considering extending its Open Beta Test 2 by 24 hours following a significant PlayStation Network outage this weekend. This outage impacted online gameplay, including the Monster Hunter Wilds beta.

Monster Hunter Wilds Beta Test 2: Potential Extension

Due to the 24-hour PlayStation Network outage beginning 6 PM EST on February 7th, Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is exploring a one-day extension for Open Beta Test 2. PlayStation Network service was restored around 8 PM EST, according to the official NA X (Twitter) support account.

While the exact timing of the extension hasn't been announced, a 24-hour addition is planned to compensate for lost playtime. This could occur anytime between the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2 and February 27th, the day before the game's official release. Part 1 of Beta Test 2 has concluded, and Part 2 begins February 13th, 7 PM PT. Players can look forward to more gameplay, including perhaps another encounter with the amusing low-poly bug.

The Hilarious Low-Poly Bug Returns

Capcom has acknowledged that the beta build is outdated and contains bugs, including the infamous low-poly character glitch. This glitch causes characters, Palicos, and monsters to appear as low-resolution, blocky versions of themselves. Instead of frustration, this has sparked amusement among players, who have shared their humorous encounters on social media. While the MH Wilds team appreciates the positive response to this bug, they encourage players to experience the game's full visual fidelity upon official release.

Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest entry in the acclaimed series and the first with an open-world setting (the Forbidden Lands), releases on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 28th, 2025. Players will investigate the mysterious Forbidden Lands and its apex predator, the White Wraith.

PlayStation Network's Significant Outage

PlayStation attributed the outage to an "operational issue" and apologized for the inconvenience. PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive five extra days of service as compensation.

However, the lack of communication during the outage drew criticism, echoing concerns from a similar incident in 2011. That outage, caused by a hacker attack, resulted in a three-and-a-half-week service interruption and the compromise of approximately 77 million user accounts. In contrast to the recent event, Sony provided more detailed communication and updates during the 2011 outage.
