Let's be straight: Mortal Kombat 1 is in decline. It looks like the Season 3 content has indeed been scrapped due to poor sales, and the newest trailer showcasing Pro Kompetition, an esports circuit of the game, can be described as safe at best.

Pro Kompetition 2025 will feature a total prize pool of $255,000. In today's esports landscape, this amount is modest, even by Fighting Game Community (FGC) standards. Previously, many top players expressed dissatisfaction with the low prize money, highlighting that it's not sustainable to travel globally for just a few hundred dollars.

This year, we will likely see two distinct pools of players: one competing in North American tournaments and the other in Europe. These groups will only come together at EVO 2025, recognized as the tournament of the year.

Of course, there are huge emotions and efforts to build hype, and to some extent, it works. However, behind the sweet emotions and the teased in-game image of T-1000, the reality paints a rather somber picture.
