Expand Your Stardew Valley Farm with Multiple Pets!

One of the joys of Stardew Valley farming is the diverse range of animals you can keep. This guide explains how to acquire multiple pets beyond your initial companion.

Unlocking Multiple Pets:

Initially, you choose a cat or dog. The 1.6 update allows for multiple pets, but first, you must maximize your existing pet's friendship. Daily care is key: fill their water bowl (except on rainy/snowy days) and pet them (indicated by a heart). Check their friendship level in the "Animals" menu.

Once friendship is maxed, Marnie will email you, opening the possibility to adopt more. If you skipped the initial pet, she'll contact you at the start of Year 2.

Adopting Additional Pets:

After receiving Marnie's email, visit her shop (9 AM - 4 PM, closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Choose "Adopt Pets" from the dialogue options.

Twelve pet licenses are available: five cat variations, five dog variations, and two turtle types. Prepare for the cost:

Pet Supplies:

Visit Robin's shop to build Pet Bowls (5,000g and 25 Hardwood each). These are essential for maintaining pet friendship. Neglecting them can lead to pets running away.

Optional decorative items like doghouses and cat trees are available at Marnie's, but don't affect friendship.
