MultiVersus to Shut Down When Season 5 Concludes in May
Player First Games has announced the upcoming closure of its platform fighter, MultiVersus, with Season 5 marking its final chapter. The game, launched May 28, 2024, will conclude its online services on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. This announcement, detailed in a blog post on the studio's website, confirms the discontinuation of all support.
Season 5, commencing February 4th, will be the game's swan song. While online play will cease, Player First Games assures players that all acquired content will remain accessible offline via local and training modes.
The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude to its players and supporters in a heartfelt message: “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

Real-money transactions have been disabled, effective immediately. However, Gleamium and character tokens can still be utilized to unlock in-game content until the May 30th shutdown. The game will also be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.
MultiVersus' closure follows reports of its underperformance and a significant financial impact on Warner Bros. Discovery. A November financial call revealed a substantial $100 million writedown attributed to the game's poor performance, adding to the $300 million total following the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This news also coincided with the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.
Despite the game's imminent closure, Season 5 promises a final hurrah. Alongside standard seasonal content, two new characters, Lola Bunny and Aquaman, will join the roster. Lola Bunny will be unlockable via a daily calendar reward, while Aquaman will be available through the battle pass, both launching next week.
